NEWARK, Del. (Dec. 2, 2019) – Delmarva Power has selected Energize Delaware to manage and operate a new program: The Energize Delaware Empowerment Grant Program. The program will provide funding to organizations proposing energy efficiency programs that directly benefit Delmarva Power customers whose households earn 60 percent, or below, of the Delaware State median income. Delmarva Power is contributing $4 million to fund the program, which will be used to provide grants to eligible organizations.
“This program is putting tools and resources in the hands of community partners so they can lower energy bills for our Delaware customers who need it most,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president. “This is a great opportunity to directly help customers in need and promote the value of energy efficiency statewide. We’re excited about how this program will help our customers save money and energy, as well as the innovative projects and ideas it can help bring to life.”
Organizations, both for profit and non-profit, will be able to apply for funding—up to $100,000 for smaller Community-Scale grants and up to $1 million for Large-Scale grants—to assist them in their work that helps low-income customers in Delmarva Power’s Delaware service area. Through a competitive bid process, Energize Delaware was selected to manage the program, along with funding all grantees.
“The Empowerment Grant Program adds another feature to the Energize Delaware services portfolio, said Tony DePrima, Energize Delaware executive director. “These funds will provide much needed assistance to residents who need it the most. It is our hope that this funding will be used to serve as many people as possible.”
Additional program details, including program qualifications, requirements and how to submit proposals to Energize Delaware will be made available in early 2020.
Energize Delaware serves as a non-profit that helps Delawareans save money through clean energy and energy efficiency. Its programs provide energy education and financial incentives to Delaware residents, businesses, nonprofits, government facilities, farms, faith organizations and schools.
The Energize Delaware Empowerment Grant Program was funded as a benefit of the company’s merger with Exelon. Since Delmarva Power became part of the Exelon family of companies three years ago, its customers in Delaware have seen improved efficiency, reliability, savings, and a wide range of other benefits. Most recently, the merger assisted in the funding of a bill payment assistance program, Delmarva Power’s Arrearage Management Program, or the AMP Pilot, as a resource to assist customers with past due balances. Currently, the program is on track to forgive more than $2 million in past due balances to participating customers.
