Roofs from the Heart Charitable Fund and The Empowerment Grant Announce combined efforts to assist Sussex County Family

Roofs from the Heart and Energize Delaware teams with winner, Donna Robbins

Dagsboro, DE— A durable roof and energy efficiency can go a long way to restoring health, safety, and hope
for families. G. Fedale Roofing-Roofs from the Heart Charitable Fund, a family centered business is giving
back to the community by providing a new roof to a resident in Sussex County as well as energy efficiency
upgrades through Energize Delaware-Empowerment Grant.

 

Donna Robbins, move back to Delaware in 2015 to take care of her aging mother at the family homestead
which has been in the family since 1945. After her mother’s passing in 2017. Donna wanted to keep the house
in the family, but the house has been in serious disrepair. Over the last five years there has been a lot of
transitions and tragedy. She now is raising 4 grandkids on her own. Meanwhile, the home has deteriorated
around them making it an unsafe, unhealthy and burden on the family. Roof leaks, insulation issues,
inefficiencies in the heating and cooling of the home threatens the security and livelihood of the children.

Donna sought help through Roofs from the Heart and applied for a new energy upgrade through our nomination
and application process. After a careful review of the application, and home visit The Empowerment Grant-
Roofs from Heart is proud to award a new roof and energy upgrades to Donna and the 4 grandkids that live with
her.

Roofs from the Heart, Roof and Resilient Homes Grant is focused on providing repairs or a new roof
installation for single-family dwellings owned by individuals in the state of Delaware. In addition to repair or
replacement of the roof other energy efficiency services will be provided based on a comprehensive energy
audit of the home. Home residents and sponsors are welcomed to submit nominations to the Roofs from the

Heart, Roof and Resilient Homes Giveaway at https://roofsfromtheheart.org/nominate-someone. Nominations
will then be asked to complete a short application detailing the need. The Roofs from the Heart and
Empowerment Grant team will then select one of the nominations for up to $20,000 worth of roofing and
energy efficient upgrades for the home. This award in Sussex County is the first of three awards that will be
given in the next six months.

According to Jim Purcell, Director of Development for the Empowerment Grant, “giving the gift of secure roof,
better insulation and efficient heating and cooling for homes like this, we can ease energy burden and create
healthier and safe homes for many families in need.”

“We have developed this roof giveaway program several years ago as a way to give back to the community”,
said Glen Fedale, Sr. “Partnering with Energize Delaware-Empowerment Grant allows to expand on our
mission of a roof to include ways to ease energy burden and provides protection, comfort, warmth, and stability,
everything that a family needs to thrive.”
